We breathe easier with trees
To decrease food insecurity, WTO donates thousands of seedlings to farmers, schools, and rural households. The effect is instant and measurable. Using trees, the community learns about soil integrity while enjoying the economic benefits from selling the fruits to nearby markets. It's a win-win.
Nature walks along the river transform water sources into usable spaces designed to encourage exercise, enjoyment of nature and learning about the symbiotic relationship of trees, land and water. Tourists and locals can take a walk with one of our Eco-guides to learn interesting facts and see sights and sounds of our waterways.
Trees serve a multitude of purposes. Along with shade, carbon dioxide and sound proofing, they also are good for our mental health. Have you ever heard the term "Tree hugger"? If the answer is Yes, then you will appreciate the energetic qualities of trees to help ground us to mother earth.
The What:
Agriculture accounts for a large percentage of economies and income opportunities in most of the affected communities in the developing world. Unfortunately, decades of unsustainable agriculture practices have resulted into land degradation, erosion, mudslides, floods, unproductive land, nutrient-scarce food systems and farming families who are unable to grow and sell enough of their products to meet their most basic needs.
Thus using approachable measures and nature friendly applicable practices in semi-arid communities like Kasese in Busongora Kingdom, Kyenjojo, Ntoroko, Kabarole, Bunyangabu, Mubende, Luwero, Mityana, Kyegegwa, Kamwenge, Arua, Maracha, Zombo and Paidha Districts in Uganda, we have proven that Agro Forestry, Eco-Agro Tourism, Sustainable Apiary Projects and promoting of establishments of Community Water Systems such as use of boreholes, valley dams, rain water harvesting and irrigation approaches are effective solutions to ending poverty, unemployment, land degradation and controlling negative effects from global warming and effects of climate change.
Sustainable Apiary Projects provide numerous advantages and products that are got directly from bees. The continuous pollinating processes of crops, plants and trees and greatly help and effectively contribute towards the restoration of the broad Environment and Natural Biodiversity.
World Tree Organization is currently working with thousands of farming families in the Rwenzori Region, Central Region and West Nile parts of Uganda in addition to other several countries elsewhere in the world. Uganda is known as the Pearl of Africa for its unique nature which is incomparable to any other part of the world.
The Why:
Our WTO Project greatly benefits the whole world by fighting global warming and the negative effects of climate change. As a result, humanity in the entire world would be engaged in harvesting huge volumes of carbon and enjoying improved international biodiversity. We are currently working with thousands of farming families in the Rwenzori Region, Central Region and West Nile parts of Uganda to avert the effects of global warming, especially within rural communities.
We divide our work into five categories: Expansion, Collaboration, Scientific Innovation, Replication and Earl Child Education in form of inspiration through story books, video games, cartoon movies, films and promotion of both community cultural and sports tourism.
Expansion – We promote Sister Projects to simplify biodiversity’s work. The World Tree Organisation (WTO) staff work with farmer groups, schools and communities both in rural and urban areas to establish Tree, Apiary and Water System Projects over a Three-Year Period in Uganda. We have plans to extend to other Projects such as planting of specialized trees such as cynad, bamboo and selected cultural trees and support farmers to engage in high value crops such as chia seeds, sunflower, sesame, ginger and garlic and our plan is to spread in different countries all over the world. There are typically between 150 – 3000 farmers in these Projects who hear us talk about these programs most frequently.
Collaboration – We do not want to re-invent the wheel. When another organization or group is doing great work in a region but would benefit from agro forestry training, we collaborate with them to bring agro forestry and permaculture to more farmers.
Replication – This is when the students become the teachers, tourists become ambassadors, public becomes promoters and scientists become innovators. Once farmers and the public go through our Seedling Program, they can “Plant it Forward as a Wonderful Gift To The World” and train neighbouring groups of farmers, tourists, students and the public in a condensed version of the Program.
Training Sites – We have staff-managed demonstration Seedling Gardens across Our Project in various communities and countries that serve as Training Sites and Eco-Agricultural and Cultural Tourism Sites for farmers, students, tourists and the general public respectively.
